Fort Popham

Fort Popham in Phippsburg Maine sits at the mouth of the Kennebec River. It is an old Civil War-era fort used for coastal defense. Fort Popham was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1969 and today is a must see stop while in the Phippsburg area.
We stopped in and explored the fort while we were camping in Phippsburg at the Hermit Island Campground. Walking around the fort is fun, but for some fantastic views head up to the top and you can see for miles out over Casco Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It was overcast and a little misty when we went, but still a lot of fun.
Check out my post on Casco Bay and the Phippsburg area.
